When painting people, animals, boats or trains in a picture, have them walking or looking into, rather than out of the picture.

Two L shaped pieces of white card or paper moved around over a photograph will help you find and plan your subject.

Allow rows of fence posts, walls or even roads to lead your viewers to the point of interest

Place such things as fence posts, trees, telegraph poles with grass or weeds growing around them, the farmer never mows right up to them

When you put trees in your picture in the foreground, keep them away from the side so that it is possible to see how thick the trunk is
